Boolean & Wildcard Searches

Use Boolean operators (AND, NOT, OR) and wildcard characters (*, ?) to refine your search results.

The following examples demonstrate some search strings you can use with Filecamp:

"blue sky"
Finds anything containing the exact phrase “blue sky”.

blue AND sky
Finds anything containing both “blue” and “sky”.

blue NOT sky
Finds anything containing “blue” but excluding “sky”.

blue OR sky
Finds anything that includes at least one of the words “blue” or “sky”.

blue sky*
Finds anything that begins with the phrase “blue sky” such as “blue skyscraper” or “blue skylight”.

*blue sky
Finds anything that ends with the phrase “blue sky” such as “bright blue sky” or “cloudy blue sky”.

blue sk?
Finds anything matching the pattern “blue sk?” such as “blue sky” or “blue ski”.

Use these strategies to narrow down your results and locate exactly what you need!

TIP: Use double quotes to narrow down your search results for phrases. E.g. when searching for a specific file called blue-sky.jpg make sure to include double quotes: "blue-sky.jpg".
